The Swine Flu outbrake is getting the world in flames. It as been a consequence of previous cataclysm scenarios which, apart from the real threat, are always a bit overrated when compared with other contagious diseases who are taking lives every minute and are not on the spotlight. This doesn't mean we shouldn't be aware and follow the indications of local healt institutions and take extra care.
But this post comes from the opportunity that we have on following it now in another way using Google Maps. Logging into the world almost in real time we can walk behind the news on the flu, just by clicking on the map above or through this link. But refrain by being too scared.
The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports that the symptoms and transmission of the swine flu from human to human is much like that of seasonal flu. Common symptoms include fever, lethargy, lack of appetite and coughing, while runny nose, sore throat, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea have also been reported. It is believed to be spread between humans through coughing or sneezing of infected people and touching something with the virus on it and then touching their own nose or mouth. Swine flu cannot be spread by pork products, since the virus is not transmitted through food. The swine flu in humans is most contagious during the first five days of the illness although some people, most commonly children, can remain contagious for up to ten days.
Experts agree that hand-washing can help prevent viral infections, a surprisingly effective way to prevent all sorts of diseases, including ordinary influenza and the new swine flu virus. Influenza can spread in coughs or sneezes, but an increasing body of evidence shows little particles of virus can linger on tabletops, telephones and other surfaces and be transferred via the fingers to the mouth, nose or eyes. Alcohol-based gel or foam hand sanitizers work well to destroy viruses and bacteria. Anyone with flu-like symptoms such as a sudden fever, cough or muscle aches should stay away from work or public transportation and should see a doctor to be tested.

Four hundred little people frolic au naturel with overgrown songbirds and raspberries; a pudgy blue demon serenades a fashionable young couple with a tune piped through his own elongated nose; a knife-wielding set of disembodied ears stalks the damned through hell. The phantasmagoric imagery of Hieronymus Bosch (d. 1516) has been the source of widespread interest ever since the painter’s lifetime, and is still so enigmatic that scholars have theorized that it contains hidden astrological, alchemical, or even heretical meanings. Yet none of these theories has ever seemed to provide an adequate understanding of Bosch’s work. Moreover, the considerable professional success that the artist enjoyed in his native Hertogenbosch, not to mention his membership in a traditional religious organization, suggests that he pursued not a sinister secret agenda but simply his personal artistic vision.
This intriguing new monograph by noted art historian Larry Silver interprets that artistic vision with admirable lucidity: it explains how Bosch’s understanding of human sin, morality, and punishment, which was conceived in an era of powerful apocalyptic expectation, shaped his dramatic visualizations of hell and of the temptations of even the most steadfast saints. Silver’s account of Bosch’s artistic development is one of the first to benefit from recent technical investigations of the paintings, as well as from the reexamination of the artist’s drawings in relation to his paintings. Hieronymus Bosch is also unique in how securely it places its subject’s work in the broader history of painting in the Low Countries: Silver identifies sources of Bosch’s iconography in a wide range of fifteenth-century panel paintings, manuscript illuminations, and prints, and describes how, despite their own religiousness, Bosch’s pictures helped inspire the secular landscape and genre scenes of later Netherlandish painters. Augmented by 310 illustrations, most in color, including many dramatic close-ups of Bosch’s intricately imagined nightmare scenes, this is the definitive book on a perennially fascinating artist.

A livraria, o tufão, as reuniões, as luzes.
“Too late”, alguém dirá. Terá ficado a causa cumprida?

É deixar-me lá na concha e no mundo... e sair, ver-me ao longe, observar-me lá em baixo.
- Portantes! Palavra bonita. Quase tão bonita como "ascese."
- Até logo...
E o pano desce.

Bloom * Creative Network have just organized its second party at The Rooftop. It was a great event, everything went just wondrous. Great music, from the Grinderman to stunning Arab beats, and most of the people don't remember how it ended, which is always a good sign. A liaison with a trombone and a guitar took the last breath of the night and St. Paul himself joined us for the last round of Caipiriñas on the ladders of the most famous landmark of Macau. And, yes, we had great disguises, great masks and real homemade productions. Bloom, thankfully, gave some prizes for the best ones. Most remembered will be the prize "Who Wants This Prize?" ;-)
We'd like to thank to the Corner's Club for this unique opportunity, mainly Derek, Sam, Gigi and all the crew of the ship.
And we'll come back very soon with something completely different from a distant place in the world. Stay tuned!

Apagava as luzes e lá vinha a escuridão total. Todo o negro de um cego. O bréu. E aí agarrava-me a ela. Agarrava-me e beijava-a, tocando-lhe em todas as partes do corpo. Imaginando todas as figuras possíveis. Bocas. Seios. As ancas.

Lawrence was the name, the only one he staged. That's how everybody knew him. No surname, not a family story. Felt was his band and he was one of my cult heroes back in the 80's. Still is, I guess, in a different shape. From time to time I step across his work and for days I play all his songs again. In these occasions I try to check where he is and what he's doing. Nobody knows, as nobody knew before. He had a hard character but the music is timeless and life flies back and forth.

[...] With just 20 minutes, Paul Kelly's Lawrence Of Belgravia was half the length but twice as dismaying, a yellowed fragment of a work-in-progress concerning the eternally deferred ascent to fame of the former Felt and Denim frontman, Lawrence (pictured above). With its beautifully composed opening shots of brown medicine bottles, hypodermic syringes and overflowing ashtrays, and accompanying crestfallen voiceover as the singer explained his forthcoming eviction, Lawrence Of Belgravia initially seemed closer in spirit to Arena’s 1986 Jeffrey Bernard documentary or Molly Dineen’s 1987 BBC2 account of Colonel Hilary Hook’s return home to England from Kenya; a peripatetic digression down the curious path of a singular life.Other link about the documentary featuring the leader of the english band Felt, is here. Complete it with this one by the hand of Alan McGee the face of Creation Records. Finally follow the whole ballad of the band here. If you want to hear his songs pass by Bloom Yellow one of these weekends. You might hear a bird whistling it. We're still mad at them.
[...] A work in progress, Lawrence Of Belgravia could eventually transform into the UK pop equivalent of Terry Zwigoff’s Robert Crumb documentary, a haunting portrait of a dysfunctional soul using art as a survival mechanism. Or it could remain forever a fragment, the unfinished document of a still unfinished dream. In its current version it stands as one of the most affecting films this writer has seen all year.

The Albergue opened officialy yesterday. Lights, sound, exhibitions, a fashion show, scheduled the event that started at 6 o'clock with a a mighty organization and a crowded audience. Among them many of the VIPs of Macau leaded by the Chief Executive, Edmund Ho. It was an effusive ocasion to glow a line of projects that are coming to this venue. The event marked the intention to grow to a new level. The potential is all there, we will see in the coming months what the future reserves for the whole space and for the district of St. Lazarus where creative industries pretend to flow.
For our part, Bloom is still displaced on the heart of its body. We're still walking and beating but through alleys and sideways. If there's the challenge to overcome for a new life, on a second and strong opportunity, on the same way we are faced for a huge operation that must be accomplished without scars and that needs certainty and consistency. We just want to clean everything, forget the past and start from ground zero onwards. Still today it's hard and painful to return to Bloom Red where the bones and remains of its destruction are completly visible. It's a nightmare on air going through weeks and weeks and we're tumbling down on the way to something that will come, but has time goes it gets more close to a dream then to anything else. We're hoping for the happy ending though.
Bloom Yellow is at Albergue, where the flashes went on. But even there we're faraway to engage on something solid, because we're still raining. Yellow is part of a rainbow and can't be made of shaded colors. We'll give it time. But we can't last forever on the side of un-definition.
Apart from all that, with or without us, Bloom wishes a long life and a great success to Albergue.

Art for All is celebrating its 1st anniversary at St. Paul’s Fine Art gallery tomorrow, 8th of December, with a cocktail party at 6:30pm. Concurrently more than ten local prominent artists, including Konstantin Bessmertny, James Chu, Bianca Lei, James Wong, José Drummond, Cindy Ng, Ung Vai Meng, Ng Fong Chao, Tong Chong, Kent Ieong and João O, will display their works for rummage sale to raise funds for the art group’s 2009 operation.
Art for All is a non-profit association founded on 8th December 2007 by a group of Macao artists with the aim to promote the contemporary art development of Macao. Supported by the private organization St Paul’s Corner , in December 2007 Art for All moved to Travessa de S. Paulo to open and manage the gallery “St. Paul’s Fine Art” and six artist studios. In 2008 the gallery has already held seven solo and two collective exhibitions of Macao artists showcasing 100-odd art pieces, presenting local artists’ creative outcome in the past year. Furthermore, Art for All has organized artists to participate in large scale international art events such as the “Beijing Art Fair 2008” in September and the “2008 ACAF NY – Asia Contemporary Art Fair New York” in November, striving to promote Macao’s contemporary art overseas.
Apart from the Macao artistic base “St. Paul’s Fine Art”, Art for All sought development beyond the region. In October, it set up the Beijing Art for All Contemporary Art Exchange Center located at the 318 Art Garden in Beijing. Its debut exhibition - the “Macao Contemporary Art Exhibition” featuring 15 Macao artists and 24 representative works - has received wide acclaim from the mainland artistic community. It provides not only a window for introducing Macao artworks to the dynamic art market in Beijing, but also a platform for artistic exchanges, creating opportunities for local artists to develop in the capital.
On the same occasion, Art for All will unveil a commissioned installation work by João O who is a Master of Art course student at the Barcelona University of Spain. The artist hopes to share his latest creative work with the audience.

More aspects of Rimbaud are known than can be assimilated: his vastly various, influential and innovative poetry itself; his expressive letters; his scornful and unhesitating permanent abandonment of poetry at the age of 20; the anecdotes of his contemporaries showing him as a drunken, filthy, amoral homosexualteenager who becomes a reserved, hard-working, responsible and respectable (if misanthropic and disgust-ridden) adult merchant and explorer. One would have to be a genius oneself to grasp the full significance of Arthur Rimbaud, or at least have the ability to hold many opposed ideas in one’s mind at the same time and still function fully. Numerous writers have sought to demonstrate their qualifications along these lines by publishing studies of him.
This biography by Edmund White is the digest version. If you’re casually curious about the fuss made over Rimbaud and want the lowdown from someone literate, it will satisfy you, without badly misleading. This approach seems to be the plan behind the series of short lives, each written by a distinguished author (often a novelist or scholar, not usually a professional biographer) and edited by James Atlas, first for Penguin, now for Atlas & Company, of which “Rimbaud” is the latest entry. Seems like a worthy idea; there are a lot of famous artists and thinkers one wouldn’t mind getting a convenient little handle on.[...]

For the introduction of Primum Lumen, a Photography Work by António Conceição Júnior.
We associate Light to Knowledge (to the point of saying that so-and-so has a some lights on Trigonometry).
Here, however, the author associates Light to Non-knowledge. Because in light - first light, undecided and primordial - the Enlightened is not so; in the very light under which he knows not whether he knows.
Only in the course of failures experienced with eyes wide open does the Enlightened one - who is not Enlightened – learn that - under a second Light - if non-knowledge knows, it is, after all, the summit of knowledge.
And thus he returns to primordial Light, to enjoy the incomparable beauty of incompleteness.
How to thank him for making us share this experience?

A good thing to do when you feel disrupt is to cross the Old Bridge on foot. Two kilometers walk. It gives you time to think. It gives just the right balance when a bus crosses the road and you feel on a rope. Trembling.
Many things came to my mind. From going to the streets on protest to making a really amazing event in Macau on the cause of the flood. By the end I was calm and clear. It's better staying like this. And what to expect from the government? I've heard that there's a line of credit. But it's always a loan. You have to pay it back anytime soon. We can ask up to 300.000 patacas and that's almost what we have lost. But then? We can put things up but we got strand to it and we just want to be free. We still have to deal with what was swallowed. The true is that there's was not a sign from the government. Nobody came during these days. The Chief Executive, on the day after, was cutting ribbons on - imagine! - a new power supply that will bring more water to Macau. What a symbolic coincidence.
On the bridge, today morning, lots of sunshine, a nice wind, and the shaking of the public transportation wheels. I realize that we need a bit of time to decide. To see what is the best. To close, finding something else to do. To keep it going or simply to go way from this land of fortune. For good!
AND THE LIGHTS ON THE BRIDGE WERE ON!
